- PC(Xbox store) - Crash on every save

Recommended Posts

In currently used save file, the game crashes to desktop whenever an action is taken that causes the game to save, such as entering a rover or habitat. This bug doesn't occur on a fresh save. I can't post crash logs as this version auto uploads them or whatever and there is no log folder stored on my PC by Astroneer.

Well I stupidly attempted to fix the corrupt save myself using the workarounds found here and here. Now Astroneer refuses to acknowledge the existence of any of my saves, acting like it's a brand new install of the game and causing me to lose all progress.

And after some tinkering the game recognizes that save once again, however, it doesn't solve my original issue. I still crash at almost any time when the game tries to save.

I solved the issue. Below is a copy paste of what I stuck on Reddit when asking for help there:

I restored my save file by backing up the save to the desktop, then wiping everything out of the save folders. Then I restarted the game and created a new game and saved that. I then found the file in the Astroneer directory, copied its name to my original save, and replaced the new save with my existing one.

Now upon rejoining that save, it would still crash if I entered a rover but not the shelter (previously it would crash on both). This leads me to believe that I fixed something wrong with the saving but there was also a problem with the rover.

So I duplicated my file as a new save, resaved it, then went back in and messed with the rovers. I grabbed a winch and yanked all my rovers around to new spots, pulled the seat off, replaced it, and now it seems to be working alright.

I have recently posted about what seems to be the same issue on Steam discussions

Whenever the other player (client) would try to enter their rover, my (server) game would crash (0xC0000005 as per dump file).

The rover in question can be found close to a gateway while I was standing close to the "home" beacon. Only that rover was causing a crash, one near "home" was behaving as normal.

The game stopped crashing upon removing the rover seat and putting it back, but this did take some 20 minutes / 4 crashes to figure out, and other players may not be as good at guessing.

Attached the sample save file for reference.
