Has performance improved a lot since release?

I'm thinking about buying Astroneer, but I'm not sure if it'll run well enough on a machine with an i7-4700HQ, 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce 840M. I'm also using an SSD, if that matters. I watched this video of a guy playing with the same CPU, but 16 GB RAM and a GeForce 860M (according to the description) around release.

My questions are as follows:
1. Has the game's performance improved a lot since its release?
2. Do you think I'll get similar performance to that of the video?
3. Does performance decrease significantly if I play multiplayer with my friend as the host?
