Need help to mine 50% of Desolo...

... 'cause you gotta have goals,right? Mostly just want to see how long it takes. I will host a little bit every now and then, so nothing souper serious...

Mining session#1 AAR:

The trench/mote/canyon was already dug as means to know where to focus the mining.

Opened up an area to the first layer of caverns. Progress...

Mining session #2 AAR:

Got some assistance from others. Some were very helpful, some others... not so much. 

I was convinced that a rover would cover way more area in less time, so one was brought. Then a crane was mounted and after that a second one. In the end, three astroneers really made a difference. The major problem is that this strategy leaves a LOT of tiny unmined pieces left in the sky and the whole area starts to look like a swiss cheese.

Adding some pics; The surface has been completely removed and with combination of the underlying caverns, its getting hard to avoid the increasing deaths due to fall damage...

Interesting I would like to know how it would end, you might start from the core with dynamites and hydrogen gas or hydrazine, they really blow with huge explosions. @204

Well, if you want to start crafting, feel free to help! And there is a lot of void near the core. Aaaand digging up instead of down is a PITA...   @TMarcher74

I might not be able to help you but I can give you tips oh how to clear 50% of desolo, @204 sorry I am a busy guy.

  • Try using explosives (Hydrogen, dynamite, hydrazine, etc), place them in a line and I think 1 explosion will trigger the next explosive to blast off.
  • Use the power of drills and just flow through soil like a worm
  • Cranes? I don't recommend them as you have to stop every now and then

Mining AAR #3: Spent a long time getting rid of splinters of undug soil, and that was just on the top layer. This will take some time....

Will prolly need to implement some kind of vetting procedure, as players who joins in either griefs in base or dont understand on how to do stuff which consumed close to 50% of the session's game time... 🙄

Since i started at the north pole, and shuttles orbit around the equator, any progress is still being hidden by the surrounding rock walls. Took some pics of the expanding crater below.
The single splinter of soil which can be seen far far away, is already mined. It disappears when approaching, but will render back when distance is right.

Crafting all explosive will take more time than if i were to mine it manually. Someone else can do it if they feel that is the way to go.

Frankly explosion can be a good way to remove such a large space. I also mine Desolo and from space already seen the core. But the more hydrogen you use this explosion will be bigger, as in film.

Mining AAR#4: Got assistance, the hole at the north pole is now widened. The separating trench is now also widened, in order to make it easier to distinguish which side to mine on.

That last pic so damn cool @204, except that the beacon line isn't exactly above the head.
Also remove that tether line so that you get THE BEST ASTRONEER WALLPAPER :)

AAR#7! First session with four astroneers! Nom nom capacity; high! We even had gathering for a group picture.

Using a rover with a crane _is_ efficient, but leaves a TON of splinters (see pic below) if driving is rushed. Some progress can be seen from spaaaaaaaaace now. The biggest void is still partly hidden behind horizon tough. The landing pad debris doesnt despawn when mined which I found annoying at first, but now i find it kinda useful to how deep we have been able to dig, as that thing was on the surface once. We finished of with making a temporary ramp to overview our domains.

Doing 25% of it at the moment. Will decide after that. No problems with framerate other than that the trade station will freeze everything the first time its being used after save has been loaded.

AAR #1 0: A corner has been dug out. Notice the scale. And that it goes beyond the horizon with its curve. Nothing distinct is visible from Sylva yet tough...

AAR #11 & #12: Some progression. Slow work tough... Save file is over 30 MB now. Wall is getting more and more MAJESTIC. Prolly found the smallest splinter of soil yet. How was it even missed when everything else around  it was removed (look at the blue circle cursor to see it)?
