Chrisix 0 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Terra forming tool: instead of just making holes and filling them this tool could have a setting for excavating whole rooms. This could come in handy for underground base building, as possibly many planets have too harsh conditions to sustain a base permanently on the surface. Navigation: allocation of landmarks – the char is already able to point, why not point at a mountain range, wreck, or any given object and allocate it as a landmark. Which would show up in the mini map and helps to find your way around easier. It would get rid of those tether and beacon highways and keeps that explorer feeling going. Given that the map is blank at the beginning and gets uncovered were ever you go. Additionally, those pods for research could contain some pieces of the map with special locations, like rich resource deposits, wrecks with special loot, bit of a bonus motivation to explore. To integrate the mini map more into the game it could be like a map module which can be added to the back pack. Modes of transportation – Walker, Crawler, Command Vehicle, Rockets Walker/ Crawler: scouting vehicle uses two legs instead of wheels. Medium speed, probably somewhere between rover and truck. Can’t handle rough terrain too good. Two or more Walkers connected would make a Crawler. Exploration vehicle great off-road capabilities, slow speed. Rockets: for hauling equipment, like resupplying space stations or getting satellites into orbit. Separate the vehicle bay into a ground vehicle bay and an aerial vehicle/ space craft bay and it could be used as launch pad for rockets too. Command Vehicle: vehicle which can be fitted with various modules, like a map module (shows the map of the current planet, also can recall maps from other planets), satellite communication link (allocate different tasks to satellites in orbit like GPS, mapping, search for resources), communication module (stay in touch with players and other bases on the planet), rocket control (oversee rocket launch, accent, course correction, docking manoeuvre, satellite placement).
Chrisix 0 Author Share Posted February 2, 2017 Well, first post didn't go as planed. Text format went completly haywire after posting and I couldn't fix it. Forum post noob fail 101 ... sorry for that but you'll get the drift.

But it should be a function added with time to the terraforming tool. Researched soon enough, like a new module installed in the tool system. The harsh conditions may be of the procedurally generated game system, but the terraforming addition would be nice. Even the aplaining tool (holding Ctrl) is in need of somewhat a tweak. 3 hours ago, Chrisix said: Navigation: allocation of landmarks – the char is already able to point, why not point at a mountain range, wreck, or any given object and allocate it as a landmark. About the highways, just don't make them. I do think beacons should be really custom, and we could set the color, shape and dots inside the signal so we could understand different things. The explorer feeling is, IMO, precisely the lack of help from the game, and the player being able to do whatever he wants. The explorer feels are good yet. But I do agree there should be clearer signs of wrecks and rich resource deposits when you add a beacon to it. 3 hours ago, Chrisix said: Walker/ Crawler: scouting vehicle uses two legs instead of wheels. Are they some kind of exoskeletons? 3 hours ago, Chrisix said: Rockets: for hauling equipment, like resupplying space stations or getting satellites into orbit. There've been a lot of issues with vehicles, and its separation would be a good addition. 3 hours ago, Chrisix said: Command Vehicle: vehicle which can be fitted with various modules, like a map module (shows the map of the current planet, also can recall maps from other planets), satellite communication link (allocate different tasks to satellites in orbit like GPS, mapping, search for resources), communication module (stay in touch with players and other bases on the planet), rocket control (oversee rocket launch, accent, course correction, docking manoeuvre, satellite placement). Not a bad idea, but it shouldn't be a vehicle. There should be modules installed in the base that represents the command center, and the vehicle could have module connections that directs data to this information center. The ideas for the modules are fine.
Lithium 0 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Ooh, I've suggested some sort of Spider and Centipede/Caterpillar shaped walker. I just think that it would appear really cool. Plus these vehicle may have a wall climbing ability that makes it an excellent device for cave exploration
