this will be my first post so bare with me . hostiles would effect the game Dramaticly More then Arids ' pinballs or the cactus that sometimes end up underground like a landmine . But the first real issue is a gun . Something to shoot at a hostile entity that could give chase to you. Like turning your collected soil from the terrain tool into Matter for a terrain mod that allows you to shoot it like a gun . then after this we can work on Unique mobs for each planet that will chase you but not the default planet you start off on . and then at this point add Foundations , doors , walls ,window , Ladder , Anything a hostile entity can possibly chew on to try and enter your base and raid it . And by raid i mean grab the first item it can pick up that can go in a inventory but killing them would give you what they took back . At this point you will need base defense items turrets , Spikes something to keep them off . And if you manage to block those hostiles with walls made of soil they break it to get to your base. this will also make the game more entertaining to see if you setup the perfect base to live in .
I don't know if anyone else has suggested this or something similar, honestly I am bit new to this stuff. I would like to suggest a mining laser tool for gathering resources without making a huge hole in the ground and I think it could also be useful tool for cutting and shaping with precision. I think it would be nice if it could aslo be used as a sort of minor defensive weapon/tool for dealing with mobs whenever they are implemented into the game. A weapon to fight the creatures in the caves would be much more comfortable than just digging out the ground under them(but it is the only way now). Of course, it should be available through researching and could be an upgrade for a terraforming tool, like adding another modifier. It should use energy or even ammunition made from metals. It's not a high priority need but it would be nice to see it happening in the future.
