  1. Hi, I've just bought the game, watched a few video's beforehand and it looks fantastic. I'm an absolute noob so much of an idea on how to play, even though I've watched a few video's! 'Seeing' and 'Doing' are 2 different things 😉 So anyway I dived into the tutorial to give me an idea but it seems very unintuitive especially for a noob like me! Why is everything broken in the tutorial? e.g. The Rover is broken and crashed into a tree, the Habitat next to the crashed rover is broken. The researcher thingy has a broken button so you cant research anything, can only finish off researching what was in there when you found it. Am I supposed to be fixing these broken things somehow? I'm not sure what I'm looking at either, different platforms have different things on them but if I look at them or try to interact with them the item name doesn't appear to tell me what that bit of equipment is. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Is there a 'turn equipment name tooltips on' option somewhere? Also there are some tethers that lead to a cave where there are some generators and a schematic thingy, took me a while to work out what everything there was and that I had to turn the generators on. No message saying that that is what you have to do, unless I missed it? Seems the tutorial is more like a puzzle than a tutorial? Also my backpack tool-tip thingy keeps telling me to print canisters? I've printed 3 now and it's still telling me to print canisters? Do I still need to print more or is it just telling me I CAN print canisters with the resources I have? There doesn't seem to be a step by step flow to the tutorial? I was expecting on screen messages saying "connect the tethers", "Make your way to the Habitat" etc. So really what I'm saying is... This is a complex game, I'm presuming most beginners like me will go straight to the tutorial only to be more confused while in there. Take it from an absolute beginner that the tutorial needs a vast improvement to be a bit more beginner friendly and more like a step by step tutorial that a puzzle. This needs to be taken out of the 'NON-ESSENTIAL FEATURE' bit and placed in the 'HIGH PRIORITY' bit as this is the first interaction a majority of beginners get with the game and if it's unintuitive and confusing then a few might be put off and I know by that stage they've already bought the game and money has been made but I'm guessing you'd rather keep them playing and get positive feedback than lose them and get negative feedback? Hopefully you'll take on board some of my comments, If it's just me then my bad, I will definitely still keep on playing and learning, thanks for reading, Frag 😊
  2. After 3 hrs of playing here is what I have learned so far. Some has probably been cover by others, for this I am truly sorry for repeating. And for someone who learned the hard way and lost their base. 1. Dig a shallow tunnel close to base - Helps when storms come in. Especially when you're not near you Habitat or Vehicle. (Tunnel under your base if, you need too.) 2. LT on "yo'self" - Compass! lifesaver at times. 3. If venturing a far - Beacons! plant them, venture, once the most recent one hits the horizon - plant another. *make sure you have compound or harvest it * 4. When venturing at the start - tether the s**t! remember you can always pick the tethers back up. 5. Solar panels... 6. Trains - 3 is the magic number to start with. What I have ended up doing. Trunk for my main drive, trunk with large storage, then 'blank' rover carts attached but one with a seat at the end. Means I can drive into caves straight and makes it easier to leave said cave. 7. Hear wind? LOOK AROUND! you may not need to duck for cover! If it looks like it is heading your direction, DIG A HOLE or HIDE! However, your vehicle will protect you if out and about. 8. If you have a train, gather your tethers and plant them on there or your backpack. This saves you creating more but compound is as common as muck, literally. 9. Power or Oxygen in caves, you say? COLLECT IT! it will be stored and automatically be used before your main supply of power and oxygen*without tethering*. 10. Aliens Trees - Look up at them! From what I have seen so far, they have 'unknown' pods on them. However, depending on the camera(angle on the xbox) you should be able to grab them with ease. ***You will need a Research lab*** I hope this helps newcomers to Astroneer on the xbox one. I look forward to any feedback and new tips and hints.
  3. I picked up the astroneer pre-alpha on steam and have a few hours into it. I must say I am very impressed so far. Stable gameplay, no crashes, bugs, or graphical oddities. A great start folks. A gameplay question ; How do you learn to build things beyond tethers, solar panels, and beacons? (Is this implemented yet) I've found a few "unknown" things that look like crashed pods etc, with a tooltip to research, but there doesn't seem to be a user-interface or button to actually do so. Hopes for the future ; Procedurally generated random planet to start on. Save functionality (obviously) Possibly the ability to construct a small rocket or something and transit between planets, maybe hauling a small amount of materials with you.
  4. So there may already be jet packs and I'm just not that far in. I love the game so far, it's really fun. I was hoping to see some changes when it comes to carrying objects, specifically research objects, it feels like when you're moving with something it has a tendency to drag your camera a little bit and you can get stuck on things. Also, there was a crashed spaceship I went inside to collect resources in and I ended up dying in there because the camera was panning through the spaceship and I couldn't see where my character was. One more thing, I wish the plants/terrain would render a little sooner. I didn't like that about NMS, how you could see terrain features just popping into view 50 feet in front of you. Is there a possibility of a point system? I wouldn't mind having little objectives to complete or having certain survival/creation/terrain deformation perks that you can achieve by completing tasks. Other than that it's been very pleasant so far.
