    Fix Tethers

Tethers are broken. On my base on Sylva, I would get extreme lag whenever I would do anything with tethers. I assume this lag is caused by the game checking if a tether is powered, and to do that it needs to check all the tethers until there are no more tethers to check. I have to have oxygenators spread throughout my tether lines so I can actually explore. I have always wanted to cover an entire planet with tethers, but that would make my computer explode. pls fix

    tether lag is very bad

so basically after you reach a certain amount of tethers in the game every time you pick on up or place one the game just freezes for a few seconds then comes back as normal except the avg fps seems to lower and lower the more you place, i would put in my system specs but this happens on both my laptops, and both my desktops.
  3. Hello Community and Staff, I have a unpayable bug with the Tethers. Summary: 1.0.4.0 - Steam - FPS DROOOOPS on every single placed tether Description: Every time i drop/place a Tether the game FPS drops immeditialy on 1 and then i think to 0 but i dont see it and it is just annoying and unplayable that version but it was not from the beginning just in the phase where i prepare to launch off the Planet also ca. several hundreds of Tethers placed before 1.0.4.0 i could place hundreds of them. Platform: Steam (PC/Windows) Version / Build Number: 1.0.4.0 Specifications: OS: Windows 10 Home x64 and x64 based Processor | v. 1803 | Build 17134.523 CPU: Intel i5 4430 3 Ghz GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 RAM: 12 GB (idk the name of them) Drive: ST2000DM001-1CH164 (2 tb with 2 partitions Astroneer is on 1 partition) Ps: Pls fix it fast because i dont know if it crash if i place too much tethers and i have tried to put all Graphics down but nope Thx Rook #Es
  4. When placing tethers, the preview indicates I can attach the tether to the vehicle, but it doesn't form said connection when placed. I tried adding an oxygenator to the vehicle, no change.
  5. I've made it down what I would call two tiers, and on the second underground tier there were more caves which led further below to a third tier underground. Whenever I even attempt to set foot in those caves the frame rate immediately drops to about 5-10fps. Further more you cannot place Tethers in this cave using 'T'. They will be removed from your backpack and just disappear, they are never placed anywhere. So I attempted to explore deeper by spawning the tethers at the opening of the cave and hand carrying them down one by one (might I say tedious). I made it to a ledge where I could see the next major open cave below, so I began trying to terraform a flat ramp using the mining gun down to it. This tuned out to be impossible due to a major gameplay/ graphical problem. When you try to terraform anything in these third tier under ground pathways/ caves, it works initially, and then after about 4-5 seconds, the terrain reforms thicker and more jagged than previously... and there's even more terrain appearing than you are able to remove. It begins to push you backwards the more you try to remove. I'll try to get photos to explain this last part. I wish I could take a video. The game runs completely smooth outside of this with no other problems noted at this time. I am playing on PC using Steam. I will note that I'm playing on a hosted game from my friend. I have yet to confirm that he is having the same issue as me but he hasn't encountered any problems as of yet.

    Tethers not working

so after completing the tutorial, I start a new game, and I can't get tethers to work, it shows a line that should attach to the main base, but it doesn't connect. They connect to each other as well, just bought the game, and already can't play it because of this
  7. Tethers not working with starting shelter/home base on v1.0. Very disappointing as I've been waiting on the release and have been supporting and playing the beta for a long time. Also, no retro suit available. 🤨

    Tether lag

System: Xbox One Update 0.10.5.0 every time I place a tether (clicking down on the D-Pad) my game lags for anywhere between 4 and 15 seconds (usually 8.15 seconds, I timed it). During this time the screen is completely frozen and I’m unable to do anything, including opennthe menu. This problem also exists when I pick up a tether to store in my pack or move the tether. This lag only occurs when the tether is going to be or currently connected to another tether that is receiving oxygen, or a live tether. If the tether is connected to a dead tether there is no lag. I have never had this problem until this update and it’s making exploring almost unbearable. Please fix this. i attached a video of the problem, hopefully you’ll be able to open it. 06F0F1C1-3129-440B-ADF4-D88855BCCB29.MP4

    Lag issues

Whenever I place a tether down the game lags for three seconds. Is there a way to fix this?
  10. After having played for a few hours on the same starting planet, the game now freezes each time a new tether is placed and connects to the extensive tether network. This only happens when the tether connects and not if one is placed on its own so it probably has to do with the game updating the entire network of tethers each time. -Keyboard/mouse -Steam -I was playing normally when this stared happening. -The only way to reproduced this is to reach an unknown number of installed tethers. I know this is possible because once I reached a barren moon, this problem was no longer happening. I have yet to return to my starting planet to see if this is still bugged, I will update as I test further. Thank you.
  11. It would be nice to have an auto deploy tethers toggle using a keyboard or controller button that is configurable in settings.
  12. Summary: 0.9.2 - Steam - Tethers do huge lags Description: Being the host of a multiplayer session, after 9 hours on the same planet, every single time one of my colleagues put a tether in the ground, my computer freezes for a second. Platform: Steam / XBox One / Windows 10 Store Version / Build Number: 0.9.2 Specifications: OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 CPU: Intel i7 GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 RAM: Corsair 2x16GB DDR3 Drive: HDD 4To ----------------------------------------------------------------------- So, as descripted above, every time a tether is put in the ground to continue the exploration, my computer's fps drop to 0-1. The problem is that the more we explore, the worst the problem becomes. Now it is totally unplayable for me in multi. It may be due to the fact that the game recalculate the whole oxygen network, as well as the whole lightning. I've read that the problem is the same for many users. My config is good for that king of game, I should stay around 100 fps. So it is not a material problem. This just has to be optimized. I have no advice on how to do that. You guys know better than me your job. Anyway, no hard feelings, we are aware it is an alpha. It is just a remark to keep in mind for future updates. Apart from that, we want you to know that it is a great game with a great concept. Except this frustration, we already had a lot of fun and I recommend this game to my friends. Keep going and stay positive !

    Tethers Causing FPS Drop

Gaming Information : 1. Mouse / Keyboard 2. Steam Client 3. Placing tethers throughout the world Bug Description : After placing multiple tethers throughout the world the frame rate of the game will drop upon moving the tethers or placing new ones. This makes the game run absolutely horrible once you have build a decently sized base and have explored caves. I would pick up the tethers, but that also causes major lag and drops of frame rate to the point it's no use. I will provide my computer specifications to give more information, to ensure my computer isn't causing the lag and FPS drop. PC SPECS : ??? ?????? ??????? ???-??? ??????? : ??.?" ??? Tethers Don't Power Down

Summary: 0.9.0.0 - Steam - Teathers don't power down when disconnected Description: When driving a vehicle away from an isolated tether network that was only powered by that vehicle, all tethers in the network remain powered, despite having no power source. Platform: Steam Version / Build Number: 0.9.0.0 Specifications: OS: Win 7 Home Premium CPU: AMD-FX-8350 Eight Core 4,00GHz GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7800 series RAM: 8.00 G (unsure of model) Drive: Western Digital Black WD1001FALS 1TB

    Hovering tethers

If you place a tether while walking forward using the terrain flatten tool, the tether lands on the height of the back of the terrain gun and floats there until some random time later they decide to fall and disconnect
  18. I started with a new save and began playing. When I saved the game and came back later I noticed several bugs. First, the tires on my small rover appeared to be "smoking" like I was a drag racer burning out on the starting line. (see attached screen shot) Secondly, on my first exploration through a cave I found a patch of Malacite. When I exited the game and then came back later, the mineral was gone, but ground was still indented from my earlier visit. Other vegetation was missing as well. Several saves and visits later, the malacite and most of the vegetation was back again. And thirdly, when I first start up I've noticed that usually my tether line is black like it's disconnected. When I pick up and drop the first tether in the line, the string reactivates.
  19. Hi Astroneer Team! I was playing today on the new update to see how things have been going. Game is great! so far i love all the updates! I saw on one of the devs twitters that you will be implementing de-rendering systems to de-spawn the items as you go travel away from them to help reduce the load on the system. Well while i was on today i noticed a serious lag causer in multiplayer games (could be single player as well, not tested). Now i don't know how you designed the tether system to work, but from what i can make up is that each tether is independent in the game. Meaning that when you place a tether down it has zero affect on the previous or next one you place. Once placed the game sends an update to update all the tether connections, if two tethers are in range of each other they connect, if not, no connection. I could be wrong with my assumption of your source code ? , but that's my best guess due to the huge lag increase from myself running around the world placing tethers, (i would say i placed around 300 as i walked the world). Every time i placed a tether the game froze for a second, render the new tether, freeze, render the connections. (in this process all my other tethers in the line would de-connect before making the new connection). So time for my fix, If my assumption is correct on your tether system, then if you turn the tethers into separate class arrays instead of single classes. This way you only have to manipulate a single node at a time. when you drop a new tether it doesn't connect to (all) the nearest tethers around, it connects to the nearest in range array of tethers, and all you have to do is add that single tether to the array so that the graphic can update. Also if you take one out, just split the tether array on the value of the removed tether to create two tether arrays. Or i could be completely wrong about this all, i figured if im right this idea could help reduce the amount of calculations on tethers are made so you can you more power for fun stuff.
  20. Summary: 0.6.8.0 - Steam - Infinite Free Tethers Description: Shift clicking (very fast) on the ground by your feet while also selecting a pile of placed tethers (all tethers occupy the same exact space) will duplicate tethers. My friend filled up many storage tables with this method. So first he hit 'T' a bunch to place a lot of tethers in one spot (merging into one visually). Then he had his curser selecting both the tether and his character. Then he held shift and left clicked really fast. He tested it with one tether and it doubled. Platform: Steam Version / Build Number: 0.6.8.0 Specifications: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU: AMD Phenom II X 4 965 GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti RAM: 12.0GB RAM Drive: (not sure where to find this. do you mean my C drive?)
  21. Hi, I don't know if this is a bug or something change in the last update. I have 30 bytes, just enough to buy the research to enable tethers, but I can't buy it. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to do something else? Cheers,
  22. Hi, In the game, Extenders is translated in French as Rallonges which is fine since it is the correct lexical field when dealing with power. However Tethers is also translated as Rallonges, this is confusing. Basic translation of tether is “longe” but it only applies generally to horses and mountain climbing, so it wouldn’t really work here. I suggest you translate Tethers as Liens which is exactly what it is in the game, a link to your base, vehicle or platform.

The Tethers Oh God the Tethers

OK so let start off by first saying I have been playing this game since it first released on the Xbox (day 1). So i have seen this game take a wonderful shape from where it first started. but there is one issue that I had at the beginning of the game that i am still experiencing now. and that is LAG! created by to many placed tethers. I am playing on an Xbox One X and the lag is still as bad as day 1 and switching to a more powerful console has not proven to be successful in this case. My question is; is this being worked on? do you guys have a plan in place to negate this issue? because it really applies in multiplayer as well as single because more then a normal amount tethers are being placed at a given time. So please just shoot me a reply that just lets me know hey we are aware of this issue and we are working to resolve it. because other then that the game is becoming a masterpiece from day 1 until now god its just oozing potential. please get back to me on the Tether issue. thanks. Hardcore Player, Robby
  24. Hey Astroneer Team I've had the game for a long time and love to see it coming along so well. I'd like to discuss my latest experience and then ask a question or two at the end of the post. So, I fired it up to check out the base-building update and read through the new changes in the F1 menu. My friends and I share the concerns that things seem much harder to do in the game now. What was immensely frustrating was the lack of ability to build tethers and start exploring. Finding Resin and compound, building the proper platform and research station, then researching. Seemed like a tremendous effort when you DON'T know what to do. Once you know the path its super simple. The other problem (as I found out later) was that I didn't even realize that the backpack research module had the different tabs at the top. I was just looking at canisters and stuff thinking. Ok maybe if we unlock a canister, then somehow we'll gain access to the tree that has tethers. Maybe I missed something in the notes. All that is to say that the backpack research is really cool thematically, but omg it is a UX nightmare to navigate and understand (there's tabs via icons, a Dpad (maybe left and right should go across tabs too?) AND little images in some crazy looking arrangement). This also transitions into the next thing. 'Q' is starting to feel overloaded and wonky. I wasn't really able to figure out after holding Q to examine how to move off. It seems my only option was to click somewhere else. Many times resulting in me hitting Q naturally (in attempt to close) and opening my backpack or something (causing more screen clutter lol) I feel like there's enough complexity here now that we should look at other keys. Judging from the roadmap it looks like you all are working on improvements to a lot of these areas and possibly they will be in by the end of Q1. What are your thoughts and feedback about my post? What items on the roadmap are going to address these? Was there items put in the base-building update that were already meant to address these issues? Oh, surely someone has reported this already but are large platforms supposed to provide oxygen without being connected to the base? You can basically drag around a large platform as a poor mans tether into caves with you. Thanks for all your work. I'm really looking forward to the finished product. Keep up the good work, please also focus on giving me a reason to explore other planets, don't give me more of the same :-)
