  1. I think I figured it out. The problem was the assumption that is was specific to Astroneer, when in reality it was specific to heavy Unreal Engine games. When I initially was digging into this, I had tried a few Unreal Engine games (e.g. A Hat in Time) but I hadn't tested against some of more heavier ones (e.g. PUBG). There I was able to reproduce the crash seen in Astroneer. It seems like the problem stems from the fact that GPU struggles with the load, which makes it unresponsive when Unreal tries to access (at least from what I can tell from searching on the internet). I toyed around with a few different solutions, but what seems to work is to underclock the GPU by about 150 MHz. That way the GPU isn't doing as much work over time. There's some more details here in this forum thread: https://answers.unrealengine.com/questions/545292/unreal-engine-is-exiting-due-to-d3d-device-being-l-3.html#answer-551017 The long term solution probably will be getting a new GPU to replace my old one, but until then this solution seems to be working for me!
  2. Summary: Astroneer crashes shortly after startup Description: I've been running into a problem with Astroneer where the game will crash after letting it run for a few minutes. In some cases this is when I'm still on the title screen, or if I'm actively playing the game. The crashes come in two flavors, either the game will freeze and eventually close, or my computer entirely freezes and it's non-responsive. This used to be an intermittent problem for a while, but now it happens fairly regularly. The crashes only seem to occur when I'm playing Astroneer; I don't have this problem with other games. As far as I know my game, drivers and OS are up to date. I've already emailed my crash logs and hardware configuration. I also was able to get this stack trace from my clipboard.
