A planet that you can circumnavigate with a rover in a trip of 1 hour is not that big, and even one smelter would be enough for pollution to show up. This is a game after all, and there's not much other realism inspiring elemets, I would say.

I'll try to gather attention over this theme one last time. I did this suggestion on the very start of early access, and I do realize the game is now heading to other directions, but still: don't you like the idea to have to manage an ecosystem which would be impacted by your doings and enstablishments? Waste management, pollution management, achievable better atmospehere (breathable?), flora and fauna population, and so on.

Nerf Material Extractor
LeNUTRIE Metanolo replied to Nathanael Price's topic in Suggestions and Ideas
Beingly exploration is quite painful, there is no way to say where you are on the planet when going off for long distances. The compass is not on the display when you drive something, and the landscape is totally similar in such a way that I get disoriented often. Then I jump off the vehicle just to check the compass and I'm heading in the wrong direction. So mineral extractor looks totally fine to me except for a little tweak: laterlite and malachite, the two main serious-things-building-materials should not be extractable. The common materials like compost, orgainc and resin, should be at our disposal as the mineral extractor is allowing it to be, once we do manage to build it. About other rare materials like titanium and lithium? I do not know, maybe it is fine as it is. There's a quick concept that could be interesting: extraction output may vary from planet to planet, due to different common soil composition. -
Environmental Hazards, Events, Asteroid belts, +More
LeNUTRIE Metanolo replied to Th0rn's topic in Suggestions and Ideas
This is interesting indeed, and would be strictly realted to what I was thinking about impacting planet's ecosystem. In my mind events should vary on planet's temperature base, something between volcano's erupting and snow storms. These kind of events may require an adequate power management to compensate the environment, or maybe special materials that enhance the thermal endurance. Just a thought.- 3 replies

I am back checking forums times to times ;). I am so faithful reading "World fauna" on the road map! It is very far ahead in the plots, but it is still something.
-
I've been busy for a while but now I am ready to be back on this topic. Yet, maybe it's to early to talk about a complex gameplay feature like ecosystems, devs are still focusing on removing bugs. I'll wait to see in which direction ASTRONEER will move before going deeper with this argument.

The tool we actually have is something like every tool you mentioned in one. It just takes some handlings, and I am honestly happy with how it works. Maybe a good idea is to add funcionalities with tool upgrades. Maybe there should be a workshop module that allow us to upgrade our equipment including backpack and tools.

please read best idea Sandstorms power wind turbines
LeNUTRIE Metanolo replied to goldenclef's topic in Suggestions and Ideas
It does make sense, a real wind turbine hangs whenever the wind is to strong to avoid structural damage. Maybe you wanted to type - safety does not make sense, its a game, let those turbine spin! -
On this subject, few ideas came up to my mind about hydrazine balance: Hydrazine can be crafted refining *placeholder* (<-- put here materials you like) Refining process produce waste as well Waste should be different based on which material we do refine Waste materials have different pollution degree Pollution may slowly alter the planet ecosystem? Maybe from terran to radiated, through various degree? Our waste products can be used to chemically alter existing resources (this may help to avoid intensive hydrazine refining)

air vehicles Plane/helicopter/Drone
LeNUTRIE Metanolo replied to Pooikooi's topic in Suggestions and Ideas
I refuse to believe developers are not planning about flying vehicles already . I bet we'll have flying stuff for sure, even just a jetpack. -
"Radiated" planets are usually closer to the sun and in my case the rotation period was crazy. From day to night in no time and the sky was swirling around like on a carousel. There are also some cool common feature that I will not spoil you. Just be sure to check it out for your videos ;).
-
I've found Astronium on the surface of a radiated planet. I am not sure yet, but maybe it is more common on that kind of planet.
-
I've found explosive but I am not able to craft it yet. Does anyone of you guys have earned the project or is it just not available? Did you try out explosive effectiveness?

Your rover is made available to attach to your other existing rovers.
LeNUTRIE Metanolo replied to mutantmarine's topic in Suggestions and Ideas
They do, but honestly it is not that useful. Rover has not enough power to efficiently pull more than another one attached. Unless your world is completely flat, then multiple attachment might work. The truck is much more powerful but if you attach rovers to it, they tend to backflip at the first rock you encounter. After some testing I ended up riding around with just one vehicle. -
I am not a developer so I cannot evaluate coding and designing, I have no idea of what these mechanics would take in term of time and effort. System Era is a small team, maybe we are asking them a bit to much . But I indeed see ecology as an argument that should matter in a game like Astroneer.
