    Flattening tool needs a side option.

    The alignment mod allows vertical surfaces, but it takes some getting used to. Aim the gun away from your feet, targeting near them makes flat horizontal surfaces. Hopefully some more tuning will come in the future, after the terrain system is updated.

    FPS issues

    We're at version 0.5 - that's half a game. You paid for a preview. Don't whinge, be constructive or don't post. We've all experienced fps issues, the game feels sluggish after playing for a while. Current wisdom is that tethers are to blame. There are definitely issues with tethers, I'm sure the devs are aware. Is that all there is? I'm on Xbox. I was recently playing a game where I'd established a reasonably significant mining base on Barren and didn't have a problem until I drove away from my base. I got lost on that tiny bastard because I was distracted. I blame a small, year-old human. She's a total hassle, right? I ended up covering most of the moon and touched a few things along the way. No tethers were laid. When I finally got home, performance was significantly poorer. (Much later the game crashed and I lost a lot of development.) This experience indicates that exploration has a large part to play in fps issues. If it can damage performance on the smallest orbiting body, it is clearly something to look at. I don't know if it's just exploring - I don't want to break my saves; or if it's leaving items like resources that can be affected by the weather; or if it's modifying terrain; or if it's simply witnessing terrain get rendered; something is up other than tethers. I've previously posted on many small platforms maybe causing an issue, but this points to something else at play. Has anyone noticed effects other than because of tethers? What might be a problem? Any anecdotal suggestions as to what's slowing us down? If it's playing with items, I suggest to the devs that after an amount of time any items left on the floor get 'rooted' into the ground so physics don't affect them.

    Lack of End game

    Version 0.5.1 Just a playground for ideas at the moment really. Version 1.0 is a game rather than a preview.
  4. So, using the terrain tool, sometimes you can't get every little piece. You might end up with a miniscule segment of sediment that you just can't target (on Xbox at least). Sometimes you can target it but the tool jams. Then sometimes grass grows on it. It looks bad. And sometimes your head catches on it. I suggest that, x number of seconds after the tool is turned off, any pieces of y or smaller disintegrate. Not for big bits of landscape, just for the little itty bitty teeny weeny ones.

  6. Well well... It's as if I jinxed it! This bug has occurred on my most recent game. Just lost >2 hrs of play following a crash after entering a rover. It's going to be a long couple of weeks waiting for the next patch!
  7. Interesting. I was plagued by a similar problem but the 0.5.1 appears to have fixed it for me. Have you tried performing a full shutdown via settings > power > turn off, then try to recreate the problem? If you haven't shutdown since the update there may be some buggy files still in the cache.
  8. Hi Russell, it's the middle of the night in the US so don't expect immediate responses from most of the community. Seattle is on GMT - 8. The manufacturer team itself doesn't currently contain dedicated customer support. Experienced members and development staff do check the forums and will offer help wherever they can. Please include any system information you can and make sure your drivers are up to date. Sorry I can be of more use, I'm an Xbox user!

    Xbox is definitely feeling the hit too, and we don't have any settings to adjust! Hopefully the next patch will have some optimisations.

    Limit snapping?

    Sorry if this has been suggested, very tricky to search for! Mods feel free to delete. Do tethers need to connect to vehicles? If they aren't looking to connect to each other, perhaps performance while driving might improve. Do we need small platforms to constantly offer us their extensions? I find it a bit distracting and it may also contribute to reduced performance*. Instead, when we want to add an extension we could target the platform and then it would work out where to lay the conduit. It'd prevent every platform in view (and beyond?) actively tracking the player movements. *my experience with lots of platforms is on saves that have plenty of tethers too.

    I know options such as Mantis have been suggested before, but a bug report via Google Forms might be a simple free option. It'd better standardise the reports and make existing issues visible via Sheets, which could be annotated by the devs if required. Just a thought.

    I'm sure they do! I can understand why they might not want to make it public, too. It'd be nice to have some kind of public master list to save players having to search for similar issues, especially as time goes on. Having a list would also cut down on repeat reporting. Also, on the roadmap I note that crash reporting for Xbox is in the released section. Does this mean devs get reports in the background? Should we just try to break the game again and again? A 'statistics' page on the in game menu (can't wait until it's a pause menu!) might be useful too. Something that contains areas explored, number of tethers, largest tether network, number of base platforms, average fps, number of terrain modifications; anything else that might affect gameplay.

    Also similar persistent 'no power' text after dying with that message active.
  15. After dying and returning to habitat, the suffocating text appears under the habit.
  16. When driving or sprinting, the rover or Astroneer occasionally stop immediately without notice. Possibly connected to the landscape being drawn in, but not related to rocks appearing. Movement can be restarted by releasing the left stick and starting again. I feel like this is new (or much more common at least) vs 0.5.0.

Not sure if this is strictly a bug, but when attempting to store (RT + X) any item, after receiving the 'backpack full' message, items freeze where they are and are no longer automatically highlighted. I'd expect items should either drop to the ground, return to their starting position, or remain carried by the Astroneer.
  18. Attempting to print medium storage while storing a stack of tethers in a side slot, the tethers jumped back and forth between the left 'compound needed' position.

    Beacon Confusion, Game Ready Assets!?

    Why not just pick a colour to mean each of those things? A selection of colours makes beacons versatile. How many options are you suggesting?

    I shutdown after the patch installed and started a new game, it saved fine. I then tested a previous save and it saved too. Edit: game crashed after trying to load back into new game, but loaded ok on 2nd attempt.

    Have you tried a full shutdown (via the settings page) and reboot? That's previously fixed the save issue before the patch. Best to start a new game to try it out, and if it works you could then try loading into a previous save.
  22. Hi Today I got into the game via instant resume, I had started the session yesterday. Australian timezone. After around half an hour, it crashed. I think it was on saving as sometimes happens - as it's usually upon entering a vehicle in various circumstances, I haven't found a link that might cause this, but it occurs often enough that I've assumed it's a known issue. I did not make a note of the last time one of these happened. Attempting to reload, the game launched as far as the solar system loading screen, which was animated with occasional sticking for over 10 minutes. I quit and attempted to reload after turning off the console and quickstarting, to no avail. I then fully shut down the console via the settings menu and restarted, which allowed the game to load. Good old "turn it off and on again"! I loaded my most recent save without looking at the timestamp, but it loaded into a save from many hours before. Unfortunately it's a save from when I was exploring and now I've no way of navigating to a base. It's possible that the saves from the previous session have been lost, I'll be able to get a better sense of the time lost when I find my main base, but my vehicle has a habitat and I feel like the last base I established was a significant number of played hours ago. This feels like a weak report so sorry about that but it's the first major problem I've had with this cracking game and thought it's worth mentioning.
