  1. Right now I reckon we're more like pioneers sent out to far away systems with limited resources and scientific capabilities to establish a simple outpost for the company and to scout out potential planets for valuable resources and information (artifacts?). Our main goal seems to be to search for riches in even the harshest planets, and maybe to explore worlds others before us have ventured to but never been heard from again? (As evidence by all the dead bodies in caves and spacecraft debris). We're clearly not very important to the company - our being on these worlds seems somewhat experiment
  2. https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-telescope-reveals-largest-batch-of-earth-size-habitable-zone-planets-around I think the basis for the lore of Astroneer was just born
  3. One important aspect I forgot to mention in the main post is hazards and threats. The greatest threats to the player, in my opinion, should come in three main forms: (1) getting lost underwater, (2) running out of oxygen/energy, and (3) dangerous lifeforms. Because of the difficulty of navigating underwater, perhaps a special beacon like device could be crafted and left suspended, emitting a visual marker, as well as perhaps, a constant beep, allowing for acoustic orientation. Since underwater there are no storms, there could be occasional tidal currents, which can push the craft far in a rand
  4. So, I've been mulling over this idea for a while now and I'm pretty excited to share it with you guys!!! Basically, many people have suggested making ocean planets, with big fish, whales, islands, etc., but in my opinion that's pretty bland - why would you want to visit another planet just to find the same stuff you can find on Earth? Instead, what if you give the whole ocean planet a bit of a twist, and say make it a frozen ocean planet, with abyssal seas plunged in eternal twilight? Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you, EUROPA! BACKGROUND: Europa is the smallest of the fou
  5. The shattered planet idea does sound cool, but the molten planet is different in that it's geologically very young, so the surface hasn't even solidified yet, whilst a shattered planet sounds like a dying planet that's losing its core heat becoming one solid object over time. I like the concept, perhaps there could be a shattered moon? Size wise it would make sense with fractures so deep they reach the molten core
  6. My thoughts exactly, I think the extreme conditions of different planetary environments should be the greatest challenge to overcome in the game, rather than the typical aliens wielding space blasters
  7. I love the idea of excavating and repairing shuttle/satellite debris!!!!! But what if, instead of just repairing them, you could collect all the necessary pieces (minimum 5 specific parts, with the option to attach more if you like), repair them, and then join them together into a space station that you could launch into space!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that people have been mentioning a space station for a while, and this would be the perfect way to implement the creation of one, and make it custiomisable as you add whatever modular attachments in what order you like!!!
  8. Asteroids would be awesome!!!! Though perhaps instead of having a dedicated armed mining vehicle you could just mount a crane onto a shuttle, thus actually giving it a use haha! Also it would be great if there were a few really big asteroids with their own very weak gravity which would allow you to build a very small base on I love the idea of excavating and repairing shuttle/satellite debris!!!!! But what if, instead of just repairing them, you could collect all the necessary pieces (minimum 5 specific parts, with the option to attach more if you like), repair them, and then join them to
  9. Yeah in hindsight would probably be quite tricky to implement, but perhaps instead of the terrain changing every single time a volcano erupts there could be a small random chance of the immediate surroundings and slopes changing during an eruption event. In doing so new mineral deposits could be created, as if the volcano was replenishing the resources, thus adding further to the risk-reward factor of settling so close to an active volcano
  10. I love the idea of twin/triplet star, or even blackhole - sun systems!!!! But to be honest I think the addition of new reachable solar systems is a bit of a ways off yet, especially since you'll need some advanced spacecraft to reach them since the game is somewhat true to life. But perhaps there could be a vary rare abandoned alien craft you can find randomly on one of the planets which is capable of interstellar voyage?
