I like most of your ideas so far, but on a note I would like to suggest something in return for the story: Instead of being sent off course, it'd make a bit more sense that perhaps this is similar to a "Land Grab" style of event. Looking back at American history, The colonization and advancement of California and several other western states was helped to a "Land Grab" tactic, which is to say, marking a plot of land as your own, In exchange for ownership, you are required to maintain and "Colonize" the area as best as you can, be it though farming or mining.
  2. 3. For a water based planet (Something something Jupiter's moon style), a flotilla pod that can be found on a small island 4. For a planet/moon with either shortened day time or a long day night cycle, perhaps a Lunar panel (Produces a lower rate of energy to solar, but works through the night as well.) 5. Some with actual features (Like a hazmat suit for a radiation planet, or a dive suit for a water planet.) but equally something that adds flare so you're not clones when playing with friends.   3. For those of you looking for an idea or two if they do add in a more challenging mode. (Current available game play would be considered something to the tune of "Explorer mode." No creative tools but no added difficulty management.)
