  1. Don't say I didn't warn you. But this is a bad idea. You guys I realise are "in it for the money" we're "in it for the fun". Many of you are still just children to many of us. But I would strongly suggest you test the game with at least a few hundred trusted players rather than just ignore all of our opinions. Because you think you know better. I've seen many games, big companies flop, because of this one specific mistake. This is the kind of mistake that saw Sony Games go into bankruptsy. Everquest went from No1 world wide game to like No 99. Overnight due to this specific mistake. Other software houses didn't even make it out of the door, having spent millions only to discover the game sucked on release due to a small group of developers wanting to hold back on release content. When this EA started, Adam promised us, you wouldn't be like Hello Games and No mans sky type anti hype.. but it seems you suffer from the same disease. Hope it doesn't fail.

    New updates are... Somewhat concerning.

I asked a similar stupid question, which turned out to be under the F1 options as well. There are on going issues with the development of the game which I do find confounding, there seems to be little planning in their roadmap nor in their updates. It's almost random what turns up. Take other sites like Ark or Wow or Starwars games, they put a post in a week or so before, letting people know whats in development, that it'll be added soon and explain any changes. SeS just fire stuff in and leave it to the punter to work out what's changed and then maybe a day or so later an update arrives in the forums. When he started the thread, I thought maybe since he'd had the game since dec 17 there'd have some fresh insights in opinion, but, basically it turned out to be the same ole same ole. The game sucks because.. thread. Part of development of games or any software is updating key elements of the game code and engine, when this happens, you have no choice but to start a "new game" because the new code just isn't compatible with the old saved data. Also as a tester, most of us know that when a new build is available, we need to start a new game to test progression start to finish, otherwise serious bugs and glitches can be missed. So the age old complaint of "I hate having to restart my games" is a moot argument. They simply cannot update the game without the issue occurring. They could however, have warned people in advance. So they knew that it would require a new game when it turned up, not been taken by surprise, when they next played.

I don't know about this 'scrap' thing.

Yeh and as I've learned from a few convos on discord, many of the main commentors don't even own the game. Seems ses are more interested in brown nosing than the opinions of their own customers.
  4. There seems to be a pervading opinion that we're expecting to see the "moon" released for pax in the last patch. I haven't seen any specific mention but I don't watch discord 24/7 or send a dozen private msgs to devs to try to improve my apparent community standing. So I honestly don't know what we'll get, tbh.. I'm carefree.. happy with whatever turns up. And willing to wait until release 1.0 for everything that comes out then as well.

Regarding grind, I honestly think that what many people refer to as "grind" is what they force upon themselves. I remember back in the day playing Everquest, people would "grind" kill order missions, ie kill 20 rabbits, kill 20 lizards etc bring 20 tails for xx rewards. They caused the game to become grindy, by themselves, it wasn't the fault of the game. You often got alot of money from just playing the game, ie exploring and doing the quests once.. and not trying to find short cuts to being a millionaire. It takes work, alot of hard work and hard work is essentially, grind. That's life.. you want the big house, the fancy car, the big boat.. you have to grind for it. Or just live your life (play the game) and you'll probably get all of those things in due time anyway. It's exactly the same in all games.. grind is eye of the beholder stuff.. most people are themselves solely to blame for any perceived grind. (the edit timer on these forums needs to be reviewed.. or removed)

My replies often reference other posts in similar threads, don't take what I say to heart as I am not very often trying to place blame on anyone, just pulling out past complaint/arguments to try to get my point across, which you seem to have understood clearly anyway.

    Extenders vs Splitter

I R smart. I R Explorer, who does get lost. But I survive. (that said a dangly thing ate me, twice) Game is same, but different, but still the same, recipes change, modules change, but still essentially the same game. Nothing is hard or a grind when you plan. I R always planning. Oh and yesterday I used a splitter. To send power to two different bases.
  8. Placed a Large Platform B on ground, opened it, placed 4 boxed solars onto it, opened them all, the 3rd one vanished from sight. I thought initally it had fallen under map/through table. But removing the others shows the table still producing power. Saved game and reloaded and it was fixed. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1542019655 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1542019741 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1542019871

There is now a good argument to completely remove the "trader" from the game. And just replace it with a recycler. You could even remove the shredder as well. Then have a machine that simply accepts scrap and outputs to several nugget types, like the switch on the trader, you choose with resource you want and depending on the rarity of it, depends how much scrap you need to input into the recycler. Or you could have it output to every type of resource at the same time. With common resources popping to storage more often and rares slowly building over time. You could also just remove the soil extractor as well. Amalgamate that with the recycler and then use either scrap or soil to extract resources. Soil would continue to only offer common resources, scrap for rarer and common. However, the argument that scrap can just be turned into rare materials in bulk simply doesn't exist, unless you had massive amounts of scrap. Or are perhaps recycling specific items, which would normally require the use of specific resources. These threads always seem to lead to the same conclusion. "Game is too hard, I want everything now, give me an instant win button". The purpose of game challenge is to make a game harder, to add grind, but it can also be to add enjoyment to playing. It seems quite clear that what many people see as difficulty and grind is fun and enjoyment for others. There is no reason to balance a game to reduce grind if there's enough people who enjoy it that way it is.

    Extenders vs Splitter

I've seen plenty of holes hold water. I'll ignore the insults and assume they're in jest. The argument seems to be about the substance of tethers in a game where they're simplified. Like looking at a storm and demanding just clouds. Then complaining about 3" hailstones. That splash when they hit the ground.

    Extenders vs Splitter

Also it could be that terran and other worlds have Oxygen in their atmosphere but not enough for humans, or maybe the astroneers aren't human.. the machines that produce it might be scrubbing it directly from the atmosphere, removing impurities or remixing it. Or whatever it is the astroneers breath. And before you say, but there are O2 tanks.. that could just stand for Oxymoron Tanks.. for those explorers who'd travel thousands of miles just to risk dying on a planet. Sounds like it is, but it probably isn't. oxymoron ˌɒksɪˈmɔːrɒn/ noun noun: oxymoron; plural noun: oxymorons a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (e.g. faith unfaithful kept him falsely true ).

    Extenders vs Splitter

Lol.. 100% chance to argue.. Tethers were used on the 1969 moon landings, the astronaut secured himself to the shuttle for the spacewalk. Obviously you just haven't seen the real video.. Tethers have been in use for a long time, esp on sailing ships, to stop men falling overboard in high seas, ie in storms. also used on the Everest climbs to stop people falling off the mtn. Fire service also use them inside smokefilled rooms, rescuers use them in caves.. climbers use them on cliffs. Even indoors these days. The immaculate production of oxygen is just a simplification of the game. If we had to produce power, in order to make oxygen, the forums would be in a daily uproar. Also, if you don't want to use tethers.. don't make them. Problem solved. What do you want? A menu slider to stop you from doing something you can/can't stop yourself from doing?

    Extenders vs Splitter

tbh Yes they probably would, it's all about redundancy, working in a non oxygen atmosphere would require horroundous levels of redundancy, to ensure the safety of the astronauts/explorers. So I'd expect even in a thousand years, there would still be cables, pipes etc being used at the very least as an emergency backup redundancy. If your suit oxy runs out or some gismo that makes oxygen breaks down, you'd always have that fallback to a tether and an oxygen pipeline. Also in event of storms or a broken communications line, you might have tethers to connect to so you could find your way back, blind. And we all know what wireless is like.. spotty connections, drop outs etc. Imagine having that in space with no backups.. suicide. As for splitters, research modules currently have 2 power settings, normal and overcharged. You might want to use a splitter to redirect power to a furness to smelt resources rather than share it with all your research modules.

Fun and interesting things to do

I like him, the fat mexican.. he's right too.. eating fat is bad for you, but eating sugar is far worse. Pies is ok, Cakes is death for fat people.
  15. Wow that must be the day you do the lottery. To get a landing like that.
  16. Why not? Guessing is like hype.. it can go either way and it'd be cool if I guessed right. Dunno why people keep going on about the saves. Like my Diablo saves don't work in Civ.. The release version of Astroneer will be completely different game to current versions. So obviously saves cannot work.
  17. That's exactly what i said isn't it? Nov patch, the last patch will have only 1 T2 planet. Release will have all. Once all the system resources are in place.
  18. Yeh always makes me wonder when I see companies jumping into events like pax etc to "promote" the game, when it's so close to release.. instead of actually working on the game. Seen this with a few other game titles that on release were severely content late. I'd think, make game, release game, then promote game whilst adding content would be a better way to go. NMS was the same, bioware, blizzard etc.. all the same, like money talks more than actual work. Yet we have sayings like 'Action speaks louder then Words'. But they always keep on talkin.

Fun and interesting things to do

They call this passive - aggression or something.. I build all my stuff underground.. just like the jedi.. so you'll need a deathstar if you want to kill my world.
  20. From the sound of what adam was saying, it sounds like they remade all the planets in t2, then just named them the same. But due to some resources not expected to be ready in time, it's likely we'll only see the moon in t2 until release, as I expect that's the only currently more or less complete t2 area there is. So I don't expect they'll be trying to remake current into t2 but actually completely rebuilding new planets in the t2 system, which sounds like alot of algorithim use, he talks about using "noise" alot, to generate new biomes, surface mass, caverns etc. It almost certainly requires a completely new world to be created. Then likely renamed to original names? Terran, Arid, Exotic, Radiated and Barren.. Oh and Tundra.. and maybe some new ones.. We could still have Desert, Swamp.. etc in the future.. Gasous planets.. full of swirly visual hazards..

    The Merits of Early Access

Well that's a thing for many people, but there's also exit state saving, ironman type 1 save only saving systems etc. So log out, log in, would just result in 'oh it's still a storm.. ' I'm not against circumvention of design, I look at it more as part & parcel of the immersion of the game, so I'll happily sit in my hab or seat during a storm, go make a cuppa, have a smoke or something. Alt tab and read forums.. then go back to the game when the storm passes. Or I'll dig down and hide and wait.. dep on circumstances. Yeh I was talking to some on steam chat about the purple thing, imo it looks like some artifact that's blown out of proportions.. but it could well be a mission giver, ai run base or something, maybe a giant hyper market for resources and techs.. maybe rare techs you can only buy with very rare resources etc.

    The Merits of Early Access

So it looks from vlog 32 like we'll get one more patch which should incl the new 2.0 moon, but the rest of the game will remain as is. Then they're planning on doing nothing until release of 1.0 which will be a complete makeover into 2.0 and new resource models, etc. Dunno what the etc aspect will materialise as, but from what I've seen, the clouds, trees, general flora looks good, new rocks, resources looks good. Will there be a story.. missions? No idea. That side seems very hush hush. Wishful thinking at this late stage maybe? I suspect 1.0 will literally be what we have now but at terrain 2.0 and alot of cosmetic changes, as per the dev roadmap. Which imho I think is a terrible shame, but I'm happy to wait and see. As for storms, I do hope they and weather will develope in the game, into a thing, I'd be all for various types of storms rather than just boxes ie hit damage, maybe we could get stamina draining storms, electrical storms that drain power, sandstorms that blind you, hurricanes and tornados, firestorms that literally force you indoors or underground etc. That depending on planet kill you outright or damage your base, destroy vehicles etc. That said I think the roadmap is seriously out of date or else someones idea of second half of 3rd quarter is in the 4th quarter period. Because almost none of it is ingame yet.

    True or False

I erm don't read discord chat, I only recently rejoined it, but don't actually pay much attention to it. Too many rooms, too much info most of which is pretty useless and not at all astroneer related.

Need to way speed planet rotations

I think it's all about progression design, in the beginning.. there was darkness.. and god couldn't see bugger all.. he'd (she'd) walk around (maybe it is a trans.. who identifies as "them", I dunno) anyhow, stumbling around in the darkness must have gotten annoying, so god made light.. it's simple progression.. it is annoying having to wait for planets to get into range even in a game. What I think we need is more progressive technology, so medium shuttles, the fueled one, can maybe jump to 50% the radius of the system, big ships can jump anywhere, but the rocket shuttle can only jump planet to planet. That way as you progress, you aren't requiring a slider in menu to just cheat your way through the game by speeding everything up, planets and moons blurring past you in the sky, which btw would probably make you sick as a dog/skunk/it networking engineer. You would progress.. That's why we research is to progress, so we should actually progress logically.. not just build bigger but has same range.. which isn't progression it's more like standing still whilst being occupied. Can you imagine God just standing on Pluto, which isn't a planet apparently anymore.. freezing his/her/thems nuts off (?) just waiting for saturn to come into view so they could jump across? No.. not me either.. they'd research a better way.. of crossing space and time.
